Food for thought

Food isn’t just something you put in your mouth to satisfy a craving.
Food has a job.
But, you are the boss.
And sooner or later you “should” take control.

Where to start?

Social networking. How many ways are there to work?

First we have email, sounds so old fashioned now, doesn't it.

I realize I'm "texting" more than using the cell phone, so talking on the phone is out, right.

I have a web site, that I love and would like everyone to visit. So, I have a twitter account, it has been said this is the way to let people know what you have to share. I spend more time hitting the button just to put twitts on my page. Do you open all of these! Again no talking, just twitting.

I just started this blog so I will have somewhere to send people who read my twits. To quote a line from a movie, "I could start a blog, I have thoughts"...

Crickets...

Something will come to me...soon. In the meantime read some of the stories I put at the top of the page.

Stop playing with your blogs!

I could rearrange this blog all day, it's so much fun! And each time I switch I learn something new.

I have to stop and write something! That's what I'm here for after all. But wait there's another blog I haven't read yet. Oh and look this one has pictures. Wait, now I have to look at that recipe...

Maybe tomorrow.

I am always amazed...

I am always amazed at my “peeps”. The people who use NutriMirror fill me with “ah” on a daily basis. Their stories are wonderful, funny heart warming. They share their struggles and accomplishments. They encourage others who may be having a hard time. They cheer when goals have been met.

A NutriMirror Anniversary

We love hearing from people who have been using NutriMirror

My 2nd anniversary with Nutrimirror!! Dont know what I would have done without stumbling onto the site..taught me about my eating habits and to be true to what I did eat. Made me accountable for what I put in my body...
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Yes I strayed when I got on maintenance, but it didnt take long for me to come back. Just didnt totally trust myself..
I am not the perfect eater but I do what makes me happy and is still getting the job done.

Kels helpful hints

If you are new to Nutrimirror or need a refresher read on:

1. Read the NM 8 Guiding Truths...you can find them under the "Featured Posts" to the top right of this screen.
2. Eat all of the weight loss calories recommended by NM. Your goal is to get as close to zero as possible.
3. When you exercise it adds calories in to your calories for weight loss. Eat those too!
4. Go for Green! My first recommendation is to aim for reducing sodium. You will see an immediate benefit is less water retention, but in order to reduce sodium, you generally have to eat more whole foods. This gets everything else green!
5. If you need help, ask for it!
6. Read others food logs for ideas!

Are you making wise choices?

Another entry from a NutriMirror member:

I was just reading an article on controlling hunger pangs and I found this paragraph that I thought all of us should remember as we try to wean ourselves from the holiday indulgences.

(Excerpt from realage.com)
Don't obsess about how much you should be eating. Instead, spend your energy thinking about WHAT you should be eating. If nutrient-rich fruit, vegetables, and whole grains aren't making frequent appearances in your diet, your body is going to miss them and loudly ask for more fuel. Same goes for lean proteins and healthful fats. Once you feed yourself better, and your body gets past the initial junk-food withdrawal, your taste buds will start to crave the healthy stuff instead.

This is SO TRUE! I can’t believe the difference it makes in my life when I eat the way my body wants me to eat. Happy New Year everyone - let's all make wise and healthy food choices!

8 Guiding Truths

Follow these guide lines and discover a new way to healthy living.

1. Balancing calories and nutrition is a LIFE-LONG process; "after" does not exist.

2. The key to life-long health is finding pleasure in the choices that move us to balance.

3. A slow approach to weight loss is better than extreme calorie deprival. You must eat!

4. We must satisfy our nutritional needs through wise food choices.

5. Eating frequently, throughout the day, is a winning strategy.

6. Physical activity is important for both better health and effective weight control.

7. Perfection is a rocky road that leads to failure. Have a forgiving mindset.

8. We cannot successfully manage performance we cannot measure.

Another testimony from a NutriMirror user

My family needed to lose weight and get healthy. we also joined in april of 2010. My husband is officially down 73 lbs. I'm down 51.4 as of this morning. My teenage son is down about 10, but only because we no longer call McDonalds home. He curses me frequently because he says fast food doesn't taste as good anymore and maks his stomach upset. My youngest is actually UP in weight which is a good thing as he was under weight. My family takes vitamins and talks nutrition together. It's worked for not only our health, but brining us together even tighter than we were before. I praise NM everyday. And I continue to tell people about the NM way daily.

Balanced Days Balanced Lives

A family needs to lose weight

This was written by one of the members of NutriMirror:

For any one that stubbles on to this site I want to tell our story again as there will be fresh eyes and I bet our story is like some of yours.

My wife found this site April of 2010. We have lived by it since then and with no exercise (but we will start this year ) I am down 65 and my wife 50. As a side befits both our kids are in normal weight ranges. Children should not be on here and ours never was but they have learned from us and eating what we eat they are of perfect range and getting the lessons we wish we had on food.

My wife and I get to log together and talk about recipes. We have more energy to get out and do thing with the kids. We are real people and this really works. I go out and work full time and my wife takes care of kids and a house and we make this work so easy.

The first week maybe 2 may be a little difficult getting use to finding and entering food but after that it is second nature.

This site is the greatest thing we have ever done as a family. If you or your family needs to lose weight I know this is the answer.
